I came here because my prior dentist was not getting persistent stains off my teeth. Julianna and Karen were incredible! So friendly and thorough. My teeth are spotless and white —this is what leaving the dentist should feel like! So happy I switched to this practice.

TMJ Treatment at Wappingers Falls Dental Arts

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, or TMJ, can cause pain and discomfort that affects your daily life. This condition affects millions of people worldwide, and the temporomandibular joint is the hinge that connects the jawbone to the skull. At Wappingers Falls Dental Arts, we provide a range of TMJ treatments designed to alleviate symptoms and restore normal function to your jaw.

Understanding TMJ

TMJ is a disorder that affects the jaw joint and the muscles that control jaw movement. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including trauma to the jaw, arthritis, and teeth grinding. The symptoms may include:

  • Pain or tenderness in the jaw
  • Aching pain in or around the ear
  • Difficulty chewing or biting
  • Clicking or popping sounds when opening or closing the mouth
  • Locking of the jaw joint

If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s important to see a dentist who specializes in TMJ treatment. At Wappingers Falls Dental Arts, we have a team of experienced dentists who can help you.

TMJ Treatment Options

We offer various TMJ treatments that address the underlying causes of the disorder and alleviate symptoms. These include:

Custom splints – A custom-fitted splint can be worn over your teeth to reduce the impact of teeth grinding and relieve pressure on the jaw joint.

Botox injections – Botox can be used to relax the muscles around the jaw, reducing pain and tension.

Orthodontic treatment – In some cases, orthodontic treatment such as braces can be used to correct bite problems that contribute to TMJ.

Bite adjustment – If your bite is misaligned, we can adjust it to relieve pressure on the jaw joint.
